MEXICO.- The captain of the Mexican soccer team, Edson Alvarezrejected the allegations that link him to a kidnapping that occurred in his country two years ago, published this week in an entertainment magazine.
A businessman told the Mexican publication TV Notas that he was kidnapped in November 2024. He accused Álvarez’s then father-in-law of being the intellectual author of the plagiarism and the midfielder of West Ham of England to know the operation.
“I categorically reject any accusation or attempt to link my name with facts, conflicts or behaviors that are completely foreign to me,” Álvarez said in a statement released Thursday on his social networks.
The businessman and television producer Juan José López Ordóñez He told the magazine that his kidnapping occurred after he demanded payment from the soccer player for a documentary about his career filmed years ago.
López assured that the negotiations for payment for the film, truncated after the World Cup 2022were carried out through the then father-in-law of the Mexican national team, Jonathan Toache.
In addition to the film, the producer had real estate deals with Toache. Conflicts arising from these deals also motivated the kidnapping, the businessman said.
“It is not my place to confirm, deny or give an opinion on what is said about third parties,” added the footballer Álvarez.
The producer pointed out two women as the material authors of the kidnapping, which according to him lasted half a day, and said that he escaped from captivity while he was being transported in a car on a busy avenue of Mexico City.
He told TV Notas that he only learned that Álvarez was aware of the plagiarism from the kidnappers themselves.
