Campaign team: Trump after shooting "near him" in safety

According to his campaign team, shots were fired near US presidential candidate Donald Trump. “President Trump is safe after shots were fired near him. No further information until further notice,” said Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung on Sunday. According to media reports, Republican ex-President Trump was at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

It was initially unclear who fired the shots. There was no evidence that Trump was the target of the shots. Several media outlets reported that the shots were fired during an argument between two people near the golf course.

In mid-July, Trump narrowly escaped a gun attack during a campaign rally in the small town of Butler in Pennsylvania. The 78-year-old suffered only a minor injury to his right ear.

A man in the audience was killed. The suspected perpetrator, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot by a sniper from the Secret Service, which is responsible for the security of current and former US presidents. After the assassination attempt on Trump, Secret Service chief Kimberly Cheatle resigned. At least five agents were also placed on leave.
