LONDON.- The American team of Formula 1, cadillaclast in the constructors’ classification, announced this Wednesday that the Polish engineer Marcin Budkowski will take over as director to replace the British businessman Graeme Lowdon.
The move takes place in the middle of the mid-season break of the top category of motorsport, which will resume activities for the Dutch Grand Prix (August 21 to 23).
The “appointment responds to a planned transition within management, as the team moves from a development phase to that of race performance,” Cadillac wrote in its statement.
This team, debuting this year in F1, has yet to score any points.
“Marcin’s appointment constitutes a new stage in the evolution of Cadillac F1. From the beginning, our objective was not only to participate in Formula 1, but to build a new generation team that was capable of competing at a very high level,” explained the general director. Dan Towriss.
The manager thanked Lowdon, 61, for his “role in the initial formation of Cadillac F1,” before highlighting Budkowski’s “exceptional experience” in the Big Top.
Extensive experience
The new director, a 49-year-old Polish engineer, has worked for various Formula 1 teams over the last twenty years, such as Prost, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Alpine.
He has also worked in the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the entity that directs the main motorsport competitions.
Cadillac, subsidiary of the American mastodon General Motorshas a solid presence in the World Endurance Motorsport Championship (WEC), in the category of Hypercar.
In this first season in Formula 1 it has two experienced drivers, the Finn Valtteri Bottas and the Mexican Sergio Perez.
But neither of them have so far managed to score points in the eleven Grands Prix held in the first half of the season and have been forced to abandon on several occasions.
Formula 1 is currently in its traditional mid-season break, a moment that the eleven teams take advantage of to work on the evolution of their cars.
