Biden: Supreme Court’s immunity decision for Trump sets “dangerous precedent”

The US Supreme Court’s decision to grant partial immunity to Donald Trump sets a “dangerous precedent,” according to President Joe Biden. From a practical point of view, the decision almost certainly means “that there are no limits to what a president can do,” Biden said in a speech at the White House on Monday (local time). “This is a fundamentally new principle and it is a dangerous precedent.”

Around four months before the US presidential election, the Supreme Court granted partial immunity to former President Trump, who was embroiled in various legal disputes. In its decision announced on Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that official acts by US presidents are generally protected against subsequent prosecution, but not “unofficial” acts.
