Biden attributes disastrous TV debate appearance to cold and jet lag

In his first television interview since the TV debate with Donald Trump, US President Joe Biden blamed a bad cold and jet lag for his disastrous performance at the debate. “I was sick, I felt terrible,” Biden said on Friday (local time) in the interview with ABC News.

“We tried to find out what was going on. They did a test to see if I had an infection, a virus,” the 81-year-old continued. But that wasn’t the case. “I just had a really bad cold.”

Since Biden’s appearance in the televised debate with his predecessor Trump on June 27, a debate has flared up among Democrats about whether they should replace the 81-year-old with another candidate for the presidential election on November 5. Biden spoke with a hoarse voice during the TV debate, repeatedly got tangled up in his formulations and did not finish sentences. On Friday, Biden reiterated his intention to stay in the race.
