Biden administration launches Spanish-language website to provide information on low-cost drugs for Medicare beneficiaries

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has established a webpage to help people with Medicare who speak Spanish as their first language understand and benefit from prescription drug savings under the Medicare Inflation Reduction Act.

The portal, which can be accessed at MedicamentosBajoPrecio.gov, is a Spanish-language resource center and contains informational materials, including key messages, social media graphics, videos and other tools for Medicare beneficiaries, a press release said.

The website is a gateway to all information related to drug prices under the Inflation Reduction Act and the process for accessing them.

“MedicamentosBajoPrecio.gov will serve as a resource to improve understanding of how the Inflation Reduction Act can reduce out-of-pocket drug costs for people with Medicare,” the statement said.

The federal agency stated that its purpose is to ensure that the largest number of people can access this informationand stressed the importance of reaching “senior citizens and people with disabilities on Medicare, whose primary language is Spanish, so that they can benefit from lower-cost prescription drugs now and in the future.”

“Many Latinos are unaware that they are eligible for these benefits, and this website will be a resource to help spread this information,” the statement said.

Miller recalled that Secretary Xavier Becerra is the first Latino to lead the Department of Healthand having grown up in a bilingual home, understands and has made access to resources in Spanish a priority.

In February, HHS launched an English-language website with the same purpose: LowerDrugCosts.gov.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to ensuring that all people have access to the information they need, in any language they speak, to access health care services. HHS will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure that all adults and people with disabilities with Medicare are aware of these new services and know how to take advantage of the new savings,” the statement said.
