Before phone call with XI: Trump sees negotiations with China "Shortly before an agreement"

US President Donald Trump hopes for progress in the trade talks of both countries in an upcoming phone call with China’s head of state XI Jinping. On Friday he will “talk about Tikok and also about the trade,” said Trump on Thursday (local time) to the broadcaster Fox News with reference to the tariffs and the TIKTOK video platform. He also said: “We are about to reach all these points. And my relationship with China is very good.”

The conversation on Friday is the second between the two heads of state since Trump’s return to the White House in January and the third since the beginning of the year. Both sides are currently negotiating tariffs and the reorganization of ownership of the ownership of Tikkok.

On June 5, Trump announced that XI invited him to visit China and he had given a similar invitation to the Chinese head of state for a visit to the USA. So far, however, nothing about possible travel plans. Several experts assume that XI will repeat his offer – also in the knowledge of Trump’s preference for pompous receptions.

The telephone call on Friday should primarily be about the video platform Tiktok. Most recently, Trump had extended a deadline for the sale of the company, which is part of the Chinese group bytedance. Trump said reporters on Thursday, he hoped to “complete something about Tiktok”. The online service is particularly popular with young people and has around 170 million users in the United States.
