MIAMI.- The Life Time Miami Marathon & Half selected the artist Laelanie Larach to design the ribbons that will adorn the coveted medals of the sports competition that will take place on February 2, 2025.
Larach has made his way into South Florida with his art, which is characterized by abstract oil paintings known as ‘coastal art’ for their vibrant colors.
In this way, Lealanie joins the select group of artists who have had the honor of decorating the medals, displaying part of their work on the athletes’ necks.
“What an honor to have been chosen to create a painting that represents the marathon and the vibe of Miami, everything that is tropical. I have participated in Art Basel and many art fairs here in Miami, but I have never had 18,000 people carrying my art. I’m planning to go to the race. It’s surreal, super exciting,” the Honduran artist commented in a statement.
Since 2012, it has been a tradition that the medal ribbons honor the culture of the City of the Sun that gives life to the Life Time Miami Marathon & Half.
Medal
Samantha Bailey, Marketing Director of the Miami Marathon, explained that they worked hand in hand with Lealanie Larach so that the medal and the ribbon were synchronized.
“His work emulates the geometric style of this year’s medal. His brushstrokes are shaped similarly to the intricacies of the medal’s design. Our theme this year is to highlight the connection between mind and body, and how each participant has contributed with a piece to the ensemble that is today the Miami Marathon. Laelanie’s work represents that,” Bailey said.
The competition ribbon comes from an original 36 x 36 oil painting titled Tropical sunsets and palm trees.
“The whole concept is tropical. You see sunsets and palm trees and it has a lot of movement. The palm trees have movement. They follow the sun and the waves of the sea under a blue sky. It is a tropical environment. There are three worlds that merge into one work of art,” explained Larach.
Marathon details
With the purpose of helping people maintain a healthy lifestyle, the Miami Marathon has a variety of activities.
Miami Famous Expo is an industry-leading gathering of vendors, live entertainment and experiential activations from leading lifestyle, health and wellness brands at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The activity will take place from January 31 to February 1, 2025.
Additionally, the Life Time Tropical 5K (3.1 miles) will take place on Saturday, February 1; while the Life Time Miami Marathon (26.2 miles) and half marathon (13.1 miles) will be on Sunday, February 2.
