Argentino Garro appears at Corinthians after being charged with a fatal collision

SAO PAULO.- The midfielder Argentinean Rodrigo Garro participated this Tuesday in the start of the Corinthians de Sao Paulo preseason, days after being charged by his country’s justice system for manslaughter after being involved in a crash in which a motorcyclist died.

The owner of the number 10 shirt of ‘Timão’ presented himself at the beginning of the 2025 activities of the second most popular club in Brazil, a team source told AFP.

Garro, 27, landed in Sao Paulo on Monday night, according to local press, two days after being involved in a traffic accident in his hometown, General Pico, in the Argentine province of La Pampa (center).

The attacking midfielder, one of Corinthians’ stars last season, was driving a rented truck that collided early Saturday morning with a motorcycle, whose driver, a 30-year-old man, died instantly.

The footballer was later charged with manslaughter, a judicial figure that in Argentina refers to causing the death of someone without intention, due to recklessness or negligence, and provides a penalty of 1 to 5 years in prison.

The prosecution allowed Garro to leave his country while the case progresses, considering that there are no “procedural dangers”, but disqualified him from driving vehicles.

Words from his coach

It is a “very difficult situation, but it will be solved. I have a lot of faith in Argentine justice,” Corinthian coach, Argentine Ramón Díaz, told reporters on Monday.

The ‘Timão’ began this Tuesday, behind closed doors, its preparation for the 2025 season, which will start on January 16 with its debut in the Sao Paulo state tournament (Campeonato Paulista).

After the accident, the Brazilian team said in a statement that it was aware of the incident and offered “solidarity to the victim and his family.”
