The Spanish coach Álvaro Arbeloa, Fulham coach, was fined 25,000 pounds (about 33,000 euros) by the English Football Federation (FA) due to statements about refereeing made at the end of September.
The disciplinary body considered that the coach engaged in inappropriate conduct by suggesting that a referee had favored Manchester United during the 1-1 draw against Fulham, corresponding to the fifth day of the Premier League.
In that match, played at the London team’s stadium, Matheus Cunha scored the goal in the 89th minute that allowed Manchester United to rescue a point.
Arbeloa admitted his responsibility in the case and, in addition to the financial penalty, received a warning. According to the FA, his statements in a post-match interview questioned the referee’s impartiality and integrity.
The sanction comes at a difficult time for Fulham, who sit last in the Premier League with just two points after their first six games of the season.
