Angel Reese makes history twice on a record-breaking night in the WNBA

Ángel Reese once again showed why she is one of the best rebounders in the WNBA. The Atlanta Dream star set two league records in one night during his team’s 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Reese grabbed 26 rebounds, a new WNBA all-time mark, surpassing the 24 that Chamique Holdsclaw had achieved on May 23, 2003 with Washington.

But his historic performance did not end there. With those 26 rebounds, Reese reached 458 for the season, surpassing the 451 A’ja Wilson had set in 2024 and becoming the new WNBA single-season rebound record holder.

The Dream center also finished with 11 points, enough to record her league-leading 27th double-double of the season. He did it thanks to a basket with 13.9 seconds left.

“I just want to be there for my team. Offense, defense, whatever it takes to win,” Reese explained after the game.

The performance comes after a difficult night on offense, as Reese acknowledged that he was not at his best in front of the basket. However, he found another way to make a difference.

“I knew I was going to be able to get them on the rebounding side,” he said.

Allisha Gray, Reese’s teammate in Atlanta, was impressed by the performance: “That’s a talent. I’m just amazed watching her rebound.”

Reese, a three-time WNBA All-Star, had already established in 2024 the record for a rookie with 13.1 rebounds per game and the league’s all-time mark with 15 consecutive double-doubles. Additionally, she led the WNBA in rebounds during her first two seasons and leads the category again this year with 12.0 per game.
