After the start of the new US administration, the leftist government launched a program called “Mexico hugs you” through which assistance is provided, with an included financial support, to those who decide to return to the country.
“There are about 75,000 nationals, Mexican and Mexican, who, since January 20, since President Trump entered, they have been repatriated“Sheinbaum said at his morning press conference.
He explained that “with all of them you have communication” and that about 45,000 have given different types of support.
These voluntary repatriations have occurred in the midst of raids to stop migrants without papers launched by Trump, especially in Los Angeles, the city that concentrates the largest number of Mexicans who live outside their country.

According to the Mexican Foreign Ministry, about 12 million nationals live abroad, 97% of them in the United States.
On Tuesday, Sheinbaum asked Washington to immediately deported Mexican citizens who are sent to detention centers such as Guantanamo and other points, where inhuman treatment has been denounced to migrants held.
