Alex Saab: Venezuela denounces that it was a victim of crimes against humanity in the US

The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, has denounced that Alex Saab, considered the front man of President Nicolás Maduro and detained in the United States until Wednesday, has been a victim of “Crimes against humanity”.

“Sooner rather than later we have to know who the responsible of crimes against humanity against our diplomat Alex Saab,” Rodríguez said at a press conference from the Legislative Palace accompanied by Saab himself.

What crimes against humanity was Alex Saab a victim of?

According to Rodríguez, Saab has lost three teeth after receiving kicks in the mouth, and they have even placed towels on his face to cause suffocation. This evidence is being collected and will be published later.

In fact, Rodríguez has taken the opportunity to attack the opposition because, according to him, “they were gloating” about Saab’s situation “as if mistreatment is something laudable.” “But now he is here, receiving the tribute that he deserves for everything he did for the country,” he said.

Thus, the president of the National Assembly has taken the opportunity to praise the figure of a Saab to whom he has attributed the merit of get business to import food to Venezuela “in the midst of the most brutal blockade.”

“We had to go all over the world to get the food that they were not selling to us,” said Rodríguez, alluding at this point to international governments sympathetic to the United States, according to the Venezuelan newspaper ‘Últimas Noticias’.

Rodríguez has gone one step further and has assured that “sooner rather than later” Caracas will present the evidence that demonstrates that the prominent opposition leaders Juan Guaidó and Julio Borges facilitated the blocking of imports into the country.

“Sooner rather than later we are going to present the evidence of how Juan Guaidó and Julio Borges are involved, of how when ships came they called to intercept them, when the vaccines came,” added the president of the National Assembly.

Finally, the president of the Venezuelan Parliament has denounced that in 2020, the US Administration under the mandate of Donald Trump had the objective of “starving” Venezuelans, and has asserted that this is even reflected in the book published by Mike Pompeo, who was then Secretary of State .

What’s next for Alex Saab?

On the other hand, Rodríguez has announced that both Saab and his wife, Camila Fabri de Saab, are joining as plenipotentiary members of the dialogue table that the Government has established with the opposition in order to advance the construction of future electoral scenarios.

As Rodríguez detailed, Saab has been included in the dialogue table by express order of Maduro, while his wife will also participate in the conversations with the opposition in recognition of her “very outstanding performance, especially at the social tables.”

The Government of Venezuela confirmed on Wednesday the release of Colombian businessman Alex Saab shortly after the president of the United States, Joe Biden, confirmed thate Caracas had released a dozen American prisoners in a gesture that would receive “appropriate action if necessary.”

Saab was arrested in June 2020 during a stopover in Cape Verde and later extradited to the United States. Caracas has defended at all times that his arrest is illegal, since he had immunity as a “special envoy” of the Maduro Government.
