Alcaraz assures that he will not force his recovery to be at Roland Garros

MADRID.- The number two in the world, Carlos Alcarazassured this Monday that the evolution of his wrist injury will mark his return to the slopes and that he will not force himself to even be in Roland Garros.

“It’s nothing different, but one more test to see how (the injury) is after a week of rest and from there we decide,” Alcaraz said this Monday after receiving the Laureus award for Best Male Athlete of the Year.

The Spanish tennis player withdrew last week from the tournament. Barcelonaafter suffering some problems in his right wrist during his victory over the Finn Otto Virtanen in first round.

On Friday, he announced that he would not participate in the Madrid Masters 1000 which begins on Wednesday because his injury was “a little more serious than we all expected.”

Alcaraz did not dare to advance any percentage of possibilities of participation in Roland Garros, where he must defend the title he won last year.

“In the end, these are things that happen in the professional world. You have to accept them with a way of learning in the future,” added Alcaraz, who is clear that he is not going to jeopardize his career to reach Paris.

“Hopefully it’s nothing and we can return to the courts soon, but we are clear that this has to recover very well if I don’t want it to harm me in the future,” said the winner of seven Grand Slams.

“God willing, we have a very long career, many years ahead of us, and forcing myself at this Roland Garros could hurt me a lot for future tournaments,” he said.

“We refer to the test. We’ll see what comes out, but as I said, I prefer to come back a little later, but very well, than to come back quickly and badly,” said the world number two.
