After scandal in the White House of Macron, does not believe in breakage between Kyiv and Washington

After the scandal in the White House, France’s President called both Selenskyj and Trump. As he explained in an interview, it was better to have confidential discussions.

France President Emmanuel Macron does not believe in a break between his American and Ukrainian counterpart. In an interview with La Tribune dimanche, he described the dispute between Donald Trump and Wolodymyr Selenskyj on Friday in the White House as “crooked press conference”.

He thinks that everyone has to go back to rest, respect and recognition beyond the anger, so that one can progress in concrete terms, because that is too important, said Macron of the Sunday newspaper. After the scandal on Friday evening, he called both his Ukrainian counterpart and the American president.

As he said to the newspaper, it was preferable to lead a strategic and confidential discussion in order to get forward and clarify misunderstandings, but not before witnesses.

Macron is convinced that the United States also have no choice but to support Ukraine in the long term. “The obvious fate of the Americans is to stand on the Ukrainian side, I have no doubt about that,” he said. He also explained that the previously commitment of the United States in Ukraine would be in line with its diplomatic and military tradition.
