AFA and River reject Milei’s measure that increases taxes to clubs

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) and River Plate They expressed their rejection to a measure of the Argentine government that increases taxes to football clubs and was qualified as “confiscatory” by the Red Band Club on Tuesday night.

The president’s government Javier Milei He had decreed on Monday an increase in the social contributions that football clubs must make, which until now had a special regime.

River said that the measure “is confiscatory” and that “far from constituting a benefit, as erroneously it is intended to point out (…), threatens to reverse the direct and positive economic impact of the club’s actions.”

In a statement published on its official website, the entity highlighted its social and educational work and pointed out that the institution “generates genuine currency income for the country.”

The Minister of Deregulation, Federico Sturzenegger, had defended the decree in his X account indicating that the clubs were “millionaires subsidized by the retirees” since they paid less contributions from those arranged in the general regime.

The official said that the clubs paid 7.5% aliquots and that, after the decree, they will pay 13% plus an additional 5.56% for one year to “recover the deficit incurred in this time.”

After the measure, the AFA released a statement on its official website entitled “The lie to the agenda. The only truth is the reality” in which it showed that the decree is “one more form of damage to the institutions.”

“The Government is only interested is to press entities without profit (drowning them), so that allowing SAD (Sports Anonymous Societies), which is nothing other than allowing the revenues of beach capital to do business with our clubs and players trained in our quarries,” said the entity.

In Argentina, teams competing in professional football are non -profit civil associations controlled by members, who pay a monthly fee and have political rights.

Since he assumed as president in December 2023, Milei proposes to incorporate SAD to Argentine football, which generated resistances in most institutions.
