Actress Laura Ramos: “In each place I have been reborn”

In Spanish production starring José Coronado, the Cuban Encarna Gladys, an immigrant mother who faces difficulties to get ahead with her son in the midst of a new reality.

“It has been a gift, of these characters Bombón, as I say, that comes to the actors rarely and this occasion has been one of them. She is a wonderful woman, a courageous, suffered mother, who has to go through many vicissitudes with her son, with her surround Platinum Awardsheld in Madrid.

The actress based in Spain He went to the awards gala to deliver the award for the best photography direction, which fell to the movie The next roomby Pedro Almodóvar.

“It has been a wonderful challenge, a very rich and dear character, that I was building little by little and with a lot, a lot character creation process.

“The characters always carry something ours. And with Gladys maybe I have in common the Latin, being strong, of courage, I am a woman of character. Life also has many beautiful things and I am not going to throw flowers, so I can say that there are many shared things,” he added.

His cultural background

Ramos, who has lived in different latitudes where his characters have taken her, settled on Spanish soil about five years and thinks not to leave this time. From each place he stays with something, but where he goes to his island with him.

“I have lived in many places. In Spain, from 1999 to 2008, then I went to Colombia, I worked and lived there many years, then in Mexico, Brazil. And now for the series I am here and I plan to stay for now, because there is nothing in life.

“Without a doubt, traveling to us with life, knowledge and mental openness, but for an actor, especially, I think it is important, because in the end we are great observers. And from each world we lead that to fiction. For me, it has been enriching absolutely. The actors must have a cultural background, an important base and travel is part of this,” he added.

And although he has learned to join new cultures, feeling foreigner is a feeling he knows.

“I have been a foreigner all my life, I have been here, in Colombia. Although in my case, at that time, it was not a decision to emigrate, but the work took me. I finally stayed and I came to release my first movie; then another one came out, I stayed, and then another; then I got things in Colombia and so it was. Emigrar is living as a foreigner with all that that entails. So I have a master’s degree.”

Precisely, bringing the luggage of an immigrant, which is usually light but loaded with postponed dreams, is something that connects it with the aguerrid Interviewswhose plot ends in the fourth season.

“In each place I have been reborn. Reaching a city where no one knows you and starting. So in that sense it has been a great learning and I have been very lucky,” he said.

Interviews

The series portrays an ex -military who is forced to take care of his rebel granddaughter after a family incident. Set in a neighborhood that gives title to the work, controlled by gang members and drug traffickers, the plot explores issues such as the generational gap, the crisis of values and the coexistence between cultures.

Although the story reached a high audience rating in Netflix, it was decided that it will not have continuity.

“The public is asking for a lot, but that’s it, it has already closed with the fourth and it is the last one. There are stories that give less and others that give for more. I think that less, it is more. And I think it can always be stretched, because when it goes well for a production, the public wants more and the scriptwriters have an incredible imagination. But I think that depends a little on the story. There are things that give for many more seasons Spin offs Of characters they like, they transport them and take them to other situations, in short, everything is done. But I think it is relative and depends on the project, ”he said.

About how the experience of working with the Spanish actor José Coronado, who gives life to Tirso in interija, commented: he commented:

“It was wonderful. He is a great professional, a great actor. And the truth is that it was a very nice and long time learning. We were in total almost four years recording the series. That is, it has been a gift to be able to share so much with him and with all the rest of the team, which are also wonderful.”

In other skins

He also recognizes that other characters have challenged her more for having less in common with her way of being.

“Gladys has been a great challenge, but at the same time, a huge joy. Maybe I have challenged characters a little further from my personality. I remember making a Colombian film, it’s called Immortellein which she was a submissive woman, mistreated by the husband, especially, very submissive. And, for example, sometimes it cost me, he is very far from me, then it cost me a little, but that was also a great challenge, ”he said.

“Normally I usually do characters with a little more character, because many times they give you what they see in you, but I love when there are very different characters and for which we really have to transform ourselves. That is the idea, what happens is that the bosses of casting or directors like to risk. That is a topic for the actors, but I don’t complain. ”

He prefers not to speak of his next project, but revealed that he is waiting for a definition.

“There is something that is in hands, but it is not yet concrete. For now, I travel to Colombia to paper procedures that I have to fix there. After return to Madrid and we’ll see.”

Trying to escape self -defining, he described himself as “a normal woman” who intends to continue working on what he is passionate about.

“My claim is to be an actress, I am a creator, of course, a person with a deep need to create in many ways of my life, as an artist. Creation is my need, but beyond that, then it is hard for me to talk about myself in that sense. I want to be able to work as an actress until a very advanced age, to continue doing what I like. That is my great yearning. And be happy, to be calm.”
