According to Trump decree, Apple also shows "Gulf of America" in his cards

US President Donald Trump turns the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America-and the card apps on both large smartphone platforms follow him.

After Google, Apple is now also followed in his map app of the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to Golf of America. The new name is initially only displayed in the USA, but adaptation to other regions is to follow how Apple informed the Bloomberg financial service.

In Google Maps, the Gulf for users in the USA is only displayed as a Gulf of America, elsewhere, both names can be seen. How Apple will implement the name change outside the USA remained unclear. The new name was already displayed in the US version of the app on Tuesday.

Trump ordered the renaming shortly after taking office three weeks ago. The name “Gulf of Mexico” has been used since the 16th century. The water not only borders on the US states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, but also on Mexico and Cuba. According to Trump’s decree, the name change for the area up to the maritime boundaries of Mexico and Cuba applies.

In the meantime, a reporter of Associated Press (AP), according to the US news agency, was denied access to an event in the White House on the grounds that the media company did not follow in the reporting of the renaming by the president. The agency and the correspondent association of the White House protested against this step.
