BOGOTA.- The candidate for the Presidency of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriellathanked this Wednesday, May 7, the support which has been granted to him by the president of the United States, donald trumpand promised that after the second round of the elections there will be “full normalization of relations” between both countries.
“With my head held high and my heart beating with patriotic gratitude, I receive your words and your firm support. Thank you, Mr. President!” said de la Espriella, who calls himself “El Tigre” and has not hesitated to praise the American president.
De la Espriella affirmed that the United States and Colombia “are sister nations” united by “the blood of heroes” and a “common destiny of defending Western civilization” in the Americas. “Together we are indestructible,” said the far-right candidate.
Leaders who respect each other
“This union, strengthened by two leaders who respect each other and who share the same values and non-negotiable principles, will make our people more prosperous,” he wrote on social networks, highlighting the “full identity” that exists between their notions of how security policies should be applied in the region.
“Narcoterrorism is the cancer that eats away at our societies and we are going to fight it relentlessly, with an iron fist and without complexes,” said de la Espriella, who listed other of his coincidences, such as the “sacred defense of private property”, free trade, or his concept of freedom.
“We make a common front against communism that seeks to poison our republics and we will join the Shield Alliance of the Americas so that the star of freedom never goes out in this hemisphere,” he added, alluding to the consortium promoted by the Trump administration to bring together the conservative governments of the region.
