A Mercedes W196 Streamliner from 1954 that led F1 legends such as the Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio and the British Stirling Moss was sold for $ 53 million (€ 51,155 million) in an auction in Stuttgart, a record.
Fangio, five times world champion, led him to victory at the 1955 Argentina Grand Prix.
That same season Moss won the Italian Grand Prix and recorded the time back.
The sale converts the W196 into the most expensive formula car ever sold, doubling the previous record of the Mercedes W196R that reached 23.35 million euros in 2013.
The auction took place at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart and the buyer made the winning offer by telephone without revealing his identity.
