The US reinforces Trump’s security, shields his residence in Mar-a-Lago with air defense systems

PALM BEACH — The United States Armed Forces have deployed ground air defense systems at the Mar-a-Lago club, in Palm Beach County, Florida, where the residence of President Donald Trump is located, and in its surroundings, according to images broadcast by local media.

The missile systems are aboard several barges near Mar-a-Lago, as well as at Palm Beach International Airport, which was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport last July, WPTV reported.

This deployment was carried out by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (Norad) and the United States Northern Command (Northcom) “at the request of the United States Secret Service,” explained the spokesperson for both institutions to the aforementioned media.

However, the spokesperson did not clarify whether the measure responds to a specific threat against the president, who travels to his residence in Florida some weekends.

Strengthen the president’s security

Mar-a-Lago remains under strict security since the frustrated assassination attempt against Trump that occurred in September 2024 at his Palm Beach golf club, after which federal authorities reinforced the president’s protection measures.

According to WPTV, since January 2025, when Trump was inaugurated, Fighter pilots have intercepted more than 60 aircraft violating temporary flight restrictions around Palm Beach.

Trump is currently in South Carolina to stage another election rally, less than a week before the midterm elections, in which the Republican Party could lose its majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, which would limit the president’s power, according to polls and Trump’s adversaries.

Trump has another election event scheduled this Friday in Daytona Beach, Florida, about 300 kilometers from Palm Beach.
