Vincent Kompany is hospitalized after collapsing during a Bayern Munich training session

The Belgian coach is stable and remains under medical supervision while undergoing extensive examinations. Bayern confirmed that its coaching staff will take over training and match management until further notice.

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was taken to a hospital in the German city this Friday after fainting while watching a training session of the reserve team. The 40-year-old Belgian coach received medical attention and remains under the supervision of specialists, according to the Bavarian club.

According to the German newspaper Bild, a helicopter landed at Bayern’s sports facilities and the coach was later evacuated by ambulance. According to information from Diario AS, Kompany is stable, although the exact reasons for the episode have not yet been officially communicated.

Bayern confirmed what happened in a statement in which it explained that the coach had to receive medical assistance after collapsing during training with the second team. Likewise, he indicated that he is undergoing exhaustive medical examinations and that he will remain under hospital surveillance.

A viral infection had affected his health

The incident came after several difficult days for Kompany, who had suffered health problems related to a viral infection for the past week.

According to the information published by Bild, the coach had already gone to the hospital days ago, although no serious condition was detected at that time. The infection would also have aggravated the discomfort in an old scar area and would have made it difficult for him to even climb stairs.

Despite being unwell, Kompany led Bayern to a resounding 6-1 victory over Leipzig. However, he had to lie down on the sofa in his locker room both during the break and after the match, an example of the physical difficulties he was going through.

The coach also missed several work sessions and was replaced by his deputy, Aaron Danks, at the press conference prior to the Champions League match against Arsenal. Later, he returned to the bench to direct the match that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Kompany had acknowledged that he did not pay enough attention to his body’s signals and admitted that he had gone through especially difficult days. The lack of rest could have contributed to aggravating his condition, although there is still no official medical explanation for the fainting.

The coaching staff will assume the functions of the coach

After the hospital transfer, Bayern Munich announced that the members of the coaching staff will be in charge of training and match management until further notice.

For now, the club has not offered more details about the diagnosis nor has it established a time frame for Kompany’s return to duty. Your medical evolution will be decisive in knowing when you will be able to return to activity.

The news has generated concern within the German team, which remains pending the recovery of its coach while awaiting new official information on his state of health.
