Medvedev and Basilashvili will compete in the final of the ATP 250 in Almaty

The Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili will meet this Sunday in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Almaty, Kazakhstan, which is played on hard courts.

Medvedev, number five in the world ranking, secured his presence in the decisive match after benefiting from the withdrawal of Kazakh Alexander Bublik in the semifinals. The Russian had won the first set 6-3 in just over 20 minutes, before his rival abandoned the match.

For his part, Basilashvili starred in one of the great surprises of the championship by defeating the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, world number 39 and seventh seed in the tournament, this Saturday.

The 34-year-old Georgian will now have the opportunity to fight for the title against one of the main references on the circuit, in a final that will pit Medvedev’s experience and potential against the unexpected candidacy of Basilashvili.

The Russian starts as one of the favorites due to his position in the ranking and his career in international tennis, although Basilashvili will seek to extend his great week in Almaty and complete his journey with a victory in the final.
