“Pedro Sánchez is a shellbuster, as they call cheaters in Spain, and he has shown it during the eight years of government. He has a plan or several up his sleeve and he is not going to let these elections go smoothly; he is going to die killing,” said the president of the Spanish Popular Party in the US, Juan José Núñez.
A recent executive decision on the questioned housing issue, taken on the same day that he dissolved the Cortes and called elections, gives strength to the suspicion that “Sánchez cheats as necessary to achieve his objectives,” according to the senior political leader.
After the defeat in the Congress of Deputies when the decrees on the housing issue were rejected by a majority, even from his ally Junts, the president of the government has presented them again before the Permanent Deputation, a body made up of the parties that allows the tasks of the Legislature not to cease with the dissolution of the Chambers until the elections are held.
“Sánchez and the left have the majority in the Permanent Deputation that addresses the laws and petitions, and they are going to allow the decrees to go forward because they are going to approve them,” Núñez warns.
In addition, he has opened a new consulate in Cuba, where he traveled shortly after assuming the interim presidency due to the motion of censure imposed on former president Mariano Rajoy in 2018, and is still deploying constant maneuvers, according to information.
“The words Pedro Sánchez and cleaning are very difficult to put together in the same sentence,” he says.
Pedro Sánchez on his board
According to Núñez, the call for elections has not been driven by the conviction to resolve the political and economic crisis suffered by Spaniards, but by Sánchez’s calculated convenience, demonstrated since he took office in June 2018.
“His political, personal and judicial outlook has become complicated for Pedro Sánchez and it will become much more complicated in the coming months when we see the woman before a popular jury, and her political mentor José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in the dock,” says the PP leader, referring to the criminal proceedings against Begoña Gómez and the former president of the government, for crimes of corruption and money laundering, in the case of the latter.
Núñez also mentions the criminal conviction against brother David Sánchez, sentenced to nine years of disqualification for irregular acts, and the investigation into allegations of irregular financing of the PSOE, the party of the head of the Spanish executive.
The case of the invasion of immigrants from Ceuta, from Morocco, stands out, only entrenched as a secret in the official Spanish archive.
“All the reports, both from the National Intelligence Center and the Spanish police in which they warned of the imminent invasion, prove
“that the government knew it and did not act,” he says when alluding to the migration crisis in the autonomous city of Spain, between July 30 and 31.
The case has generated resignations from the executive delegate and his chief of staff who, after trying to evade responsibility, have stated that they duly reported the alert to the central government.
This Tuesday, Juan Jesús Vivas, president of Ceuta, who together with Juan José Imbroda, from Melilla, received the institution’s gold medal in the Senate, questioned the Sánchez government whose socialist party did not attend.
He regretted the painful mark left by “the invasion” of July and stated that the daily life of Ceuta has become a succession of incidents and sieges, which is why he warned of the danger that looms over the sovereignty of the whole of Spain, the media reported.
“The political situation is going to be very complicated for him, and if he does not bring forward the elections as he announced and hold them in July 2027 when they were due, he would arrive at the date with an absolutely destroyed party and a lot of criminal cases with little possibility of maneuver.”
Núñez also mentions the leftist movements “that have entrenched themselves with demands for housing, in tents in Madrid”, a crisis that Sánchez has promoted with illegal occupation and not with the 184,000 housing units that he promised to build over seven years. “And he did nothing, just blame the opposition.”
“Many circumstances come together, and one of the parties that has kept him in power all these years, Junts, has told him that we have come this far.”
Call under suspicion
Pedro Sánchez, since he was elected general secretary of the PSOE, has not stopped lying to Spain, says Núñez
“He said that he was not going to make an agreement with the Chavistas of Podemos, nor with the communists, nor with the terrorist heirs of ETA, nor with those who want to break up Spain, and he made an agreement with all of them. He is a liar and now he is doing it again with the issue of housing.”
The “founded” suspicions about Sánchez, which Sebastián Abascal, president of the radical opposition VOX, has also expressed, are beginning to cloud the electoral panorama.
“The only thing that matters to Sánchez is not Spain or the government, but staying in power and continuing to muzzle the critical press, intimidating the judges who bring criminal cases around him”
Faced with this, the PP will remain alert, which adds to the position of working for national reconstruction to close the “black period” of the president of the socialist government, expressed by the president of the party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
“We are going to be very attentive because we know that Pedro Sánchez can attempt something illegal at any time, we will be vigilant. And if he tries something we will cut him off in the best possible and most effective way throughout the process. I am clear on a personal level that he is not going to allow quiet elections,” he reiterated.
