MIAMI.– The Administration of the Social Security (SSA) prepares to announce the payments of the benefits that will be obtained in 2027, which will have an increase to benefit all citizens registered in their programs in USA.
How much the amounts will rise will depend on the cost of living adjustment (COLA), which could be 3.6%, the highest in the last three years, according to estimates, based on inflation data for the months of August and this September, soon to be published.
Once these are announced starting next Thursday, the SSA will be able to announce the final amount of the COLA and also on October 14 the final increase in benefits that can be received starting in January 2027, according to the official calendar.
The 2027 COLA applies to retirees, survivors, those on Disability Insurance (SSDI) and those on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), all beneficiaries of SSA programs, who can calculate the increase in their monthly payments.
Social Security Increases
The equation is simple: if inflation rises, so do Social Security benefits, and this obeys the purpose of the SSA to adjust the purchasing power of beneficiaries to the pace of the cost of living.
According to publications, it is possible to approximate the increase that profits would have from 2027.
The SSA uses for its calculations not only inflation but also the comparison of the average of the price index for urban workers and administrative employees (CPI-W) of the last three months (July, August and September 2026) with the average of those same months of 2025.
According to calculations, with a hypothetical COLA adjustment of 3.4%, the average benefit of a retiree, for example, would obtain an approximate payment of 2,157 dollars with the estimated increase of 71 dollars per month.
However, it is specified that the actual amount will depend on each person’s benefit, the final COLA and possible Medicare deductions that could reserve a portion of the increase.
The service centers of this federal health program and Medicaid, which conclude their temporary programs in 2026, will announce the final premiums for 2027 in the coming days, as reported.
