MIAMI. Shortly after Nicolás Maduro’s defense presented a motion to dismiss charges of drug trafficking and criminal conspiracy, under the allegation that he has immunity as head of state, President Donald Trump assured that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, will end up in the dock in the US for “serious crimes.”
Trump announced that the couple still need to be charged with a charge that, according to the US president, is very serious and has not yet been brought against them. But he did not reveal what it was about.
“Maduro was the worst person in the world,” he asserted.
He recalled that the couple already faces accusations of narcoterrorism, conspiracy to introduce cocaine into the United States and weapons crimes. He reiterated that Maduro “emptied his prisons” and sent inmates to US territory.
“I hope that at some point he will be charged with that charge, because it is a serious accusation that has not yet been made,” he said.
The trial of the Maduro-Flores couple begins in June 2027, but the deadline to request the dismissal of the case was until September 2.

He assured that the United States “took Venezuela” after the capture of Maduro in the first days of January and that the oil extracted has already paid for the war “about 54 times.”
“We are using this now. We took over Venezuela and paid for the war about 54 times already. When was the last time you heard something like this? (…) Venezuela has been great and they are doing great. We are doing great. We are both making massive amounts of money and we are working very well with Venezuela,” said the US president.
The reference is related to the “historic” oil agreement that was signed yesterday in Miraflores (Government Palace) in Venezuela by the US Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, and the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez.
North American Blue Energy Partners (Nabep) was the company selected by the US to sign the agreement that will allow the exploitation of at least 20% of the proven reserves of Venezuelan crude oil for 25 years.
