He real Madrid has opened disciplinary proceedings against Raúl Asencio after the Spanish defender was convicted of driving while intoxicated. This was confirmed this Thursday by his coach, Jose Mourinhoduring a press conference.
The 23-year-old player was intercepted by the police in Gran Canaria on August 16. The tests determined that he had three times the legal alcohol level, for which he received a fine of 14,400 euros and lost the right to drive for eight months.
Asencio’s situation is also complicated by another judicial process he faces in Gran Canaria and which is related to the alleged non-consensual dissemination of a sex video recorded in 2023.
Mourinho supports Asencio despite the disciplinary procedure
Mourinho highlighted the defender’s professional behavior within Real Madrid, especially during his recovery from a hamstring injury. The coach assured that Asencio is usually one of the first players to arrive at training and one of the last to leave.
However, the coach was forceful in pointing out that representing Real Madrid implies a permanent responsibility also off the field of play. Mourinho stated that the actions of the footballers can directly affect the prestige of the institution.
The Portuguese coach also marked differences between making an isolated error and accumulating problematic situations. Although he acknowledged that anyone can make mistakes, he made it clear that he is not satisfied with the circumstances currently surrounding the defender.
The judicial situation of Raúl Asencio
Asencio has been injured since mid-July and has not yet been called up by Mourinho since the coach arrived on the Madrid bench. Before his injury, the footballer had established himself as an important alternative for the center of defense.
During the last two seasons, the Spaniard gained prominence in the first team until receiving a call-up to the Spanish team in 2025, although he ultimately did not make his debut for La Roja.
Outside of football, the defender remains linked to the case of the sex video recorded in 2023. According to the Spanish press, Asencio hopes to be acquitted if the two women who appear in the recording formally forgive him.
The trial, in which three other former Real Madrid reserve team players are also accused of allegedly recording and distributing the video, is scheduled for September 3, 4 and 7.
