POISSY.- The coach of PSG, Luis Enriquestated this Thursday that a player on his team must win the Ballon d’Or this season after having conquered the Champions League for the second consecutive year.
“I’m not interested in who wins the Ballon d’Or. But, in my opinion, it has to be a PSG player,” declared the Spanish coach at a press conference.
“We have players who have won the Champions League. We have Fabian Ruizwho has won the World Cup (with Spain)… Ousmane Dembelewho won the Ballon d’Or last season,” he continued, after having openly supported the French striker last season to win the top individual award.
“It’s my opinion. But I’m not interested in individual awards, the most important thing is the collective,” he added.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or will be awarded on October 26 during a ceremony in London.
Furthermore, the Spanish coach stated that he was not “worried at the moment”, on the eve of the match against Monaco and after two ties in the Ligue 1 against him Rennes and the Lille (2-2).
When will PSG be at 100%? Luis Enrique was asked: “It depends on many factors that I cannot control. My job is to look for the best 11 players for each game. I am not worried about when we are at the highest level.”
“We have to accept it and prepare. We have not sold any player who started in the Champions League final and we have signed young players, I think it can be a very positive mix, we have to wait to see what the result is,” he said.
Best wishes for Barcola
Asked about the progress of Bradley Barcola to the Liverpool, The coach stated that “everyone wins: he wanted to leave because he wanted to have more importance in the team and that is gained in training, I cannot guarantee it to any player.”
“He has been a very important player, he is an incredible person, his teammates loved him. He still had two years left, he decided to leave and I wish him the best. We have to accept it,” he added.
