LOS ANGELES.- The Spanish Carlos Alcaraznumber two in the world, resigned from participating in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 as he continues to recover from a wrist injury that has kept him off the court since April, the organization announced this Tuesday.

The organizers of the tournament, which will be held between August 8 and 23, indicated in a statement that Alcaraz left Cincinnati due to “a wrist injury that still persists.”
“We know that Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to competing as soon as possible,” said the tournament director, Bob Moran. “We wish him the best in his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future.”
The loss in Cincinnati raises doubts about Alcaraz’s title defense at the United States Open, the last Grand Slam of the season, which will begin on August 30 in New York.
The Cincinnati Masters 1000 is one of the main hard-court preparation tournaments before the New York tournament.
