MIAMI.– The City of Miami Beach officially proclaimed July 23, 2026 as Senator Ileana García Day, a distinction with which it recognizes the work of the state legislator in favor of projects considered strategic for the municipality and her collaboration with local authorities during the 2026-2027 Florida legislative session.
The proclamation, approved by Mayor Steven Meiner and the City Commission, highlights García’s participation in obtaining state resources for infrastructure works, in addition to his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening resilience and raising the quality of life of Miami Beach residents.
Among the efforts included in the document is the allocation of $900,000 for the Alton Road (State Road 907) reconstruction project, an investment aimed at modernizing that important road, strengthening security and increasing the city’s response capacity to future climate events.
The distinction also highlights the obtaining of $500,000 for structural repairs at a community facility in North Beach, a space that serves residents of all ages and constitutes an essential resource for that sector of the municipality.
Likewise, the municipal government valued the senator’s support for financing Phase III of the West Avenue project. Although that item was later vetoed by the governor of Florida, the document indicates that this effort reflected his commitment to investments aimed at strengthening coastal infrastructure and promoting the long-term resilience of Miami Beach.
The text also highlights García’s willingness to maintain constant communication with municipal authorities, learn first-hand about the community’s priorities and collaborate in the search for solutions for issues of local interest.
Garcia represents District 36 in the Florida Senate, which encompasses Miami Beach, North Bay Village, Surfside, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands and part of the city of Miami. Elected for the first time in 2020, the Republican legislator has promoted initiatives related to infrastructure, transportation, coastal resilience, public safety and issues of interest to the Cuban-American community.

The document was signed by Mayor Steven Meiner, Vice Mayor Laura Domínguez and commissioners Tanya K. Bhatt, Alex Fernández, Joseph Magazine, Mónica Mateo-Salinas and David Suárez, who made official the designation of July 23 as Senator Ileana García Day in Miami Beach.
