In addition to the title, several La Roja footballers will have to fulfill one of the most talked about promises during the concentration: tattooing the face of coach Luis de la Fuente, a bet that began as a joke and ended up becoming a commitment.
It all started with Marc Cucurella, who before the start of the tournament assured that, if Spain won the World Cup, he would get a tattoo of the coach’s face. As the games went by and the team’s good performance, other teammates began to join the challenge until it became one of the most curious stories in the locker room.
The Spanish champions confirm that they will keep the promise
After the victory in the final, Cucurella acknowledged that he has not yet decided where on his body he will have the tattoo, although he hinted that he will look for a visible place so that everyone can see it. He even joked that he will take advantage of the return trip to find the ideal location.
Álex Baena confirmed that first he will immortalize the World Cup on his skin and, later, he will get the Luis de la Fuente tattoo. The midfielder revealed that he even plans to do it with Cucurella, although in his case it will be a small design on the thigh. Yeremy Pino also accepted the challenge, although he clarified that he will choose an inconspicuous area, while Borja Iglesias reiterated that he will fulfill his promise by looking for a style that he likes.
The Galician striker also said that he has been recording images of the concentration, the final and the team’s celebrations with the intention of making a documentary about Spain’s path to the title. As he explained, the material includes unprecedented moments, both of celebration and frustration, showing the most human side of the group during the championship.
“We’ll talk to someone, to see if anyone wants to play it. And if not, then I’ll play it for myself at home. I’ve been recording, also with my cell phone, and I already have quite a few things. I think there’s very cool content. It’s also even a little angry on me, because when you don’t play sometimes you get angry,” he admitted.
Luis de la Fuente also did not escape questions about the striking promise. The coach responded with humor and recalled that he had already warned his players that they were committing themselves to something difficult to avoid. “They are men of their word and they are going to keep it,” he said with a laugh, resigned to becoming the most famous tattoo of the world champion team.
