The future of Julián Álvarez seems to be resolved. The CEO of Atlético de Madrid, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, firmly assured that the Argentine striker is not for sale and ruled out any possibility of negotiating with Barcelona.
In public statements, the red and white leader made it clear that both the club and the player know the institution’s position.
“My position is clear, the club’s position is clear. We have made it known to the player, his representatives and the president of Barcelona.”
Gil also highlighted the importance of Álvarez within Atlético’s sporting project.
“I have absolutely no doubt that Atlético is the best place in the world for Julián and that Julián is the perfect center forward for Atlético de Madrid. We want to keep him.”
The executive also responded to the recent words of the president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, who had indicated that the offer for the attacker had a financial limit.
“I recently heard President Laporta say that the offer he made to Atlético was not unlimited. My only response is that our response to Barcelona is unlimited.”
To close down any speculation about a possible transfer, Gil was even more forceful when he revealed that the club rejected a proposal of 100 million euros and that it would not accept much higher offers either.
“We do not accept an offer of 100 million euros and we will not accept one of 150 million or even one of 200 million for Julián Álvarez. We want to keep Julián.”
With these statements, Atlético de Madrid sends a clear message to the market: Julián Álvarez is a fundamental piece of Diego Simeone’s project and the club is not considering negotiating his departure, despite Barcelona’s interest.
