Inter Miami continues to bet on young talent and announced this Tuesday the incorporation of Ecuadorian defender Fricio Caicedo, who arrives on loan from FC Moravia in Costa Rica until the end of the Sprint 2027 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with a purchase option at the end of the loan.
Caicedo, just 18 years old, will occupy a place in the Under-22 initiative once he obtains his P-1 visa and the International Transfer Certificate (ITC). The left-footed defender, 1.93 meters tall, is considered one of the great promises of Ecuadorian football.
“My goals are to play, earn minutes, become a starter and win many titles. I came to Miami because my dream was to play alongside Messi, who is undoubtedly the best player in the world. I am here to make history and show what I can do,” said the defender after making his arrival official.
For his part, the club’s sports director, Alberto Marrero, highlighted the qualities of the new reinforcement. “Fricio is a young player with enormous potential and a bright future. We believe that this is the ideal environment for him to continue his development. He stands out for his physicality, his strength in the aerial game and his speed in contesting divided balls,” he said.
Trained in the youth ranks of LDU Quito, Caicedo also played for the Ecuadorian team’s under-20 team before continuing his career at FC Moravia. In addition, he has already worn the Ecuador national team shirt in youth categories and was recently called up by Sebastián Beccacece to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
The defender even made his debut with the senior team when he entered the second half of the 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia.
With his incorporation, Inter Miami seeks to strengthen a defensive line that has shown ups and downs during the campaign, while adding a new South American promise to a squad led by Lionel Messi. The club will have the possibility of permanently acquiring the Ecuadorian once the loan ends.
