Spain ties up France and returns to a World Cup final 16 years later

Spain once again wrote a golden page in its history by defeating France 2-0 and qualifying for the final of the 2026 World Cup, where it will seek to win its second World Cup.

La Roja put on an outstanding performance this Tuesday in Arlington, near Dallas, by completely neutralizing a French team that had been one of the most offensive teams in the tournament. The French team did not manage to make a single shot on goal during the 90 minutes, a reflection of the solid defensive approach of the team led by Luis de la Fuente.

The scoring opened in the 22nd minute, when Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty to put Spain ahead. The sentence came in the second half thanks to Pedro Porro, who in the 58th minute extended the lead and headed their way to the grand final.

With the victory, Spain reaches only the second World Cup final in its history. The first was in South Africa 2010, when Andrés Iniesta scored the historic goal in extra time against the Netherlands to win the Spanish team’s only world title.

Now, La Roja waits for its rival in the final, which will come from the confrontation between Argentina and England. The decisive duel will be played next Sunday and Spain will try to add a second star to its shield to confirm the successful process led by Luis de la Fuente.
