US Secretary of State Marco Rubio believes an agreement with Tehran to end the war is still possible despite his country’s recent attacks on Iran. During a visit to India on Tuesday, Rubio referred to negotiations planned for later in the day in Qatar. “We’ll see if there’s any progress.”

Regarding a possible agreement with Tehran and the planned negotiations in Qatar, Rubio told journalists: “There is a lot of back and forth regarding certain wording (…), so it will probably take a few more days.” US President Donald Trump “expressed the desire to reach an agreement,” Rubio added in Jaipur. “He will either get a good deal – or no deal at all.”

At the same time, Rubio again called on Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz: “It will be open in the end – one way or another.” Iran’s actions in the strait, which is important for the global economy, are “unlawful and illegal – it is intolerable and unacceptable for the world.”

Despite an actual ceasefire, the USA said it attacked targets in Iran on Monday. The US Central Command responsible for the Gulf region (Centcom) said Iranian missile positions and ships that wanted to lay mines were attacked.
