Nadal considers that he has been “transparent” and “sincere” in his Netflix documentary

MADRID.- The tennis legend Rafael Nadal He assured AFP on Wednesday that he set himself the goal of being “transparent” and “sincere” in the documentary series of Netflix dedicated to his figure and which will be broadcast on that streaming platform from May 29, in full Roland Garros.

It was precisely in that grand slam Parisian, who won 14 times, where Nadal (39 years old) achieved the greatest successes of his career.

“I think it is a real documentary, that does not paint things in a rosy color, and that combines what my sporting career has been with the difficulties that I have faced,” Nadal told AFP just before the broadcast of the first of the four episodes of the series in a preview in Madrid.

“I think I have been quite transparent about my life, with all the things that have happened to me. I have been sincere and this is my story. Then, if there is something that surprises you, that will depend on you,” added the historic king of clay, winner of 22 Grand Slam tournaments in more than 20 years of a career that ended in 2024.

The documentary was filmed during his last season on the circuit, “when I was still active and trying to recover from an injury, a hip operation,” he explained.

“I didn’t succeed. I tried to compete, but I couldn’t recover 100%. That whole process was recorded: the doubts, the uncertainty and, later, the acceptance of the situation,” he said.

“Was it important to tell this painful part of my career? I don’t think so, but I have people around me who I trust who convinced me to do it, people who have been successful in this industry and who perhaps had a more global vision of my career. I followed their advice and here we are. I hope you like it,” concluded the man who has a statue at the Roland Garros facilities, a tournament that begins this Sunday and will end on Sunday, June 7.
