French striker Ousmane Dembélé was chosen this Monday as the best player of the Ligue 1 season at the UNFP trophies ceremony held in Paris, once again consolidating his dominance in French football with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 28-year-old attacker surpassed his teammates Nuno Mendes and Vitinha, as well as Florian Thauvin, from Lens, and Mason Greenwood, from Marseille, in the vote.
With this recognition, Dembélé became the fifth player in history to revalidate the award for best footballer in Ligue 1.
Dembélé overcomes injuries and shines again
Although he did not reach the dazzling level of the 2024-2025 season, when he even won the Ballon d’Or, the Frenchman was once again decisive for PSG despite suffering physical problems at the beginning of the season.
During the gala, Dembélé wanted to share the merit with his teammates:
“It is an individual title, but all the individual trophies I have won have been thanks to this entire team.”
French coach Didier Deschamps also praised the attacker’s mental strength.
“You have had a far from easy journey, with many injuries, but you have always had that mental strength to come back even stronger,” said Deschamps.
The best goal of the season was also his
In addition to the award for best player, Dembélé received another recognition thanks to a spectacular goal scored against Lille in January, defined with a highly precise shot that was chosen by fans as the best goal of the season.
The last PSG player to win the award for best player and best goal in the same year was Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2014.
PSG, very close to another Ligue 1 title
With two days left in the championship, PSG is practically assured of a new league title. The Parisian team has a six-point lead over Lens and a largely favorable goal difference.
The team from the French capital could mathematically confirm the championship in the coming days if it maintains its advantage in the final stretch of the tournament.
