NEW YORK.- The American president, donald trumpdeclared himself surprised by the high price of tickets for his team’s first match in the World Cup 2026more than $1,000, and assured that he “would not pay” that amount.

“I was not aware of that amount,” Trump said when asked by the New York Post about the cost of attending the game. USA against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles.

The cheapest ticket for that duel is listed at a price of $1,940 on the ticket’s sales website. FIFA.

“I would love to be there, but I wouldn’t pay that, to be honest,” the president said.

This same week, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantinodefended itself against criticism of the pricing policy for the World Cup, alleging that it responds to the particularities of the entertainment market in the United States.

According to Infantino, 25% of the tickets for the group stage cost less than $300.

Government review?

Trump, for his part, also suggested that his government could examine the price of tickets, considered exorbitant by groups of fans who have filed a complaint against FIFA with the European Commission.

“I haven’t seen that, but I would have to address the issue,” said the Republican.

Likewise, Trump assured that he would be “disappointed” if the people who voted for him could not attend.

“I wish the people who voted for me could go… If the people of Queens and of Brooklyn who likes Donald Trump can’t (attend the games), I would be disappointed, but at the same time it is an incredible success,” explained the former real estate magnate, who is originally from New York.

“I know that (the tournament) is enormously successful, it is breaking all records and (FIFA) has never seen anything like it,” Trump added about the World Cup, which will be hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

FIFA has sold around five of the seven million tickets available and a new “last minute” sales phase opened this Thursday on the organization’s official website.
