Barcelona closer to the title after victory in Madrid against Getafe

Barcelona took a big step towards winning the League title this Saturday by winning 2-0 in Getafe on matchday 32 of the Spanish championship.

Goals from Fermín (45+1′) and Marcus Rashford (74′) allow the Blaugranas to take advantage of the setback suffered by Real Madrid on Friday in Seville, where the team from the capital could not get past a 1-1 draw with Betis.

“We wanted to play our game. I really appreciate what I saw with the ball and without the ball… Taking advantage of the moments has been key, we wanted to take advantage of the spaces,” Barça coach Hansi Flick said on television.

The German did not want to ring the bell even though the renewal of the League title seems in his pocket: “The most important thing is today, we don’t want to think about anything else. We have to celebrate it when it’s done.”

Barça consolidates its lead in the championship, now with a wide advantage of eleven points over Real Madrid, with five games left and fifteen points remaining.

In this situation, the Barça team could revalidate its League title the next day if it beats Osasuna in Pamplona and Real Madrid does not win at Espanyol’s field.

Flick’s team ended a streak of five games without winning in Getafe, where they appeared this Saturday without their star Lamine Yamal, suffering from a muscle injury that will make him miss the last part of the season.

Barcelona victory without Lamine Yamal

Without the Barça number 10, Flick once again turned to veteran Robert Lewandowski. who warned early with a header that went high (4′), but would have to wait until half-time to take the lead.

Pedri sent a good ball into space for the run of Fermín, who scored after the departure of David Soria (45+1′).

Barça managed to open the game in this way after a first half in which it was difficult for them to find the gaps in Getafe’s strong defense.

With the score in their favor, Barça approached the match in a different way, keeping the ball and waiting for their rival to come out to try to exploit the spaces.

Dani Olmo was able to score the second by receiving a ball in the area from Jules Koundé from the right, but his shot was taken out by Soria (52′).

Barça continued to have control of the match until they were able to score the calming goal a quarter of an hour before the break.

The Englishman Rashford took advantage of a long ball from Lewaandowski to run and stand alone in front of the Getafe goalkeeper to make it 2-0 (74′).
