MUNICH.- The goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, Manuel Neueradmitted this Tuesday that the difficult situation of the real Madrid can make it more dangerous for the quarter-final second leg of the Champions.
“When you’re on the ropes, sometimes you can be more dangerous,” Neuer said at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference at the Allianz Arena.
Eliminated in the King’s Cup and with the League very complicated, Real Madrid is forced to overcome the 2-1 loss in the first leg in Madrid to try to save the season.
“I prefer to focus on us, on the good streak we have, we are present in all competitions and we have everything in our hands,” said Neuer.
The captain of the German team admitted that they come out with the advantage of the result and the fact of playing at home, but asked to tone down the euphoria.
“In the past we have seen how Real Madrid can also hit,” he recalled, alluding to the Spanish rival’s comebacks in the Champions League.
“But still, of course we have faith and confidence in each other,” he added.
The German goalkeeper also warned that it is not just about focusing on the individualities of Real Madrid as Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius.
“It’s not about names. You play against an entire team, against Real Madrid,” said Neuer, for whom it will be decisive to play as a block on Wednesday to get a place in the Champions League semi-finals.
The Bayern goalkeeper regretted, however, that the injured Real Madrid goalkeeper was not present in the match. Thibaut Courtois.
Eternal youth
Decisive in Bayern’s victory in Madrid a week ago (2-1) in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, Neuer has shown that, at 40 years old, he is still one of the best goalkeepers on the planet.
“At 40 you’re still young,” joked his coach, the Belgian. Vincent Kompanywhen Neuer’s birthday approached, on March 27.
And on Tuesday, at the stadium Santiago Bernabéu and in front of Mbappé and Vinicius Junior, the “Wall”, one of Neuer’s nicknames, brought out the entire repertoire of typical stops that have forged his legend.
