MIAMI. — A traffic accident that occurred this Thursday night during the demonstration of young Cubans in the vicinity of the Versalles restaurant, on Calle Ocho, left at least three people affected, who were transferred to a nearby hospital.
According to what was observed at the scene, a black Mercedes-Benz truck hit two participants who were on the opposite side of the concentration, who suffered presumably minor injuries.
The vehicle continued its trajectory until it collided with a palm tree on the sidewalk in front of Maspons Funeral Home, without other cars being involved, suggesting that the driver would have lost control before the final impact.
The driver, whose identity has not been confirmed and who, according to the images, appears to be over 60 years old, was assisted by paramedics at the scene and transported by ambulance in a condition that appeared more delicate compared to the others affected.
Witnesses present indicated that the person behind the wheel could have had some type of medical complication while driving, although so far there is no official confirmation about the causes.
In the midst of the confusion generated after the incident, which left attendees shocked, some commented on various hypotheses about what happened, even linked to the political context of the protest, without any of these versions having been confirmed by the authorities.
Emergency units quickly responded to the area and transported the three involved to a medical center to receive specialized care.
So far, authorities have not offered preliminary details about what happened, so the case remains under investigation.
DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS, present at the scene, decided to reserve the identity of the two injured out of respect, until their families are notified.
This is a developing story, so from this newsroom we will remain attentive to any updates on the case.
