LONDON.- The Natural History Museum in London was the most visited tourist attraction in the United Kingdom during the year 2025, with a historical record of more than 7 million visitors, which placed it ahead of institutions such as the British Museum for the first time.
The British Association of Major Tourist Attractions (ALVA) revealed this Friday that the total number of visits to the 409 spaces it covers in the British territory was 165 million last year, which represented an increase of 2% year-on-year, although still below levels prior to the covid pandemic.
The Natural History Museum, in the London neighborhood of South Kensington, led the list for the first time after increasing its number of visitors by 13% in 2025, reaching 7,116,929 people, a historical annual attendance record for any museum or gallery in the country.
The director of the Natural History Museum, Dr. Doug Gurr, said in a statement that these exceptional results reflect the institution’s “firm commitment” to offering a fantastic day to every visitor, as well as the dedication of workers to create “unforgettable experiences and world-class exhibitions.”
“Welcoming 7.1 million visitors demonstrates the enormous public interest in the wonders of the natural world and the cultural attractions of the United Kingdom,” said the director of the museum, who has committed to opening “a new or renewed permanent gallery every year” until the institution’s 150th anniversary in 2031.
In second place was the British Museum, with more than 6.4 million visitors; followed by the royal park at Windsor, in third place with 4.9 million visitors, and the Tate Modern, which settled for fourth place and 4.5 million visits.
For its part, the most visited paid attraction in the United Kingdom in 2025 was the Tower of London, with 2.8 million attendees.
