Journalist Oriol Nolis celebrates recognition of the Joy of Living Awards

MIAMI.- Oriol Nolis—director of La 2Cat RTVE, la que tú Quiero—has been recognized with the Joy of Living Award for Excellence in Communication and Direction. The jury for the 2026 edition of the award, created by the Cuban artist Lucrecia, highlights the professional career of the Spanish journalist and writer.

After the verdict was made public, Oriol Nolis received the news with emotion. “As it could not be otherwise, I took it… with great joy!” he said in an exclusive interview for DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS.

“These awards not only recognize good work or a remarkable career, they also highlight the way it has been carried out. I believe that the Joy of Living Awards recognize a way of being and being in the world.”

The representative of La 2Cat said he felt honored, since the awards recognize the commitment social, inclusion and resilience. In this sense, for him, this recognition not only marks another personal milestone, it is also an impetus to continue working for public service through the media.

“An award like this is, above all, a reason to thank many people and an incentive to continue doing things as before,” he commented. “Sometimes the job of management or direction is a bit thankless because you get all kinds of problems that you have to solve and it is difficult to satisfy everyone. When that happens you think if it is worth so much effort, and seeing this award it is clear that it is.”

Path

In his portfolio, Nolis has 20 years linked to the public sector and the media. In 2007, he was recognized with the Breakthrough Presenter award from the Spanish Professional Association of Press, Radio, Television and Internet Reporters APEI Catalunya.

In 2015 and 2022, he published the books The Strange Story of Maurice Lyon (Editorial Suma) and The Fragility of All This (Editorial Círculo de Tiza), respectively.

And from July 2021 to October 2023, he directed the Corporation’s headquarters in Sant Cugat.

Regarding what he does today at La 2Cat RTVE, he acknowledges that he is passionate about the selection of content.

“The most beautiful thing about directing a channel like La 2Cat is being able to choose transversal and public service content, and being able to bring reality closer to the audience in an honest and plural way,” he said.

Looking back and reflecting on the professional spaces he has conquered, Nolis maintains that the greatest challenge he has faced has been: “Being consistent and honest with my decisions. And never being a prisoner of a position or responsibility.”

“To do this job well, I think you never have to be afraid of losing it,” he said.

To young people who today dream of generating a positive impact, in a world shaken by social changes and conflicts, he invites them to “always maintain a critical spirit, to be permeable, ductile, and that to obtain a victory it is always better to seduce and convince than to win.”
