The Spanish Carlos Alcarazworld number one and undefeated in 2026, said this Tuesday that he hopes to “continue” his streak in the Masters 1000 of Indian Wells, in the United Stateswhich starts on Wednesday.
Alcaraz, 22, won the Australian Open in January and then the tournament Doha ATP 500 in mid-February.
He arrives in the California desert in search of a third title in this Masters 1000, which he already won in 2023 and 2024.
The Spaniard, who has 12 victories in as many matches in 2026, was asked at a press conference this Tuesday about the record held by Serbian Novak Djokovic, who began the 2011 season with 41 consecutive victories until he lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals of Roland Garros.
“We don’t realize how hard it is until the moment you try to go for it,” he said, smiling.
“I’m only 12, I realize that I still have to win 4 or 5 of the biggest tournaments in the world, wow… I’m very proud of my start to the season, I hope the streak continues playing good tennis,” added the Murcian.
“I think that on the court I control my emotions even better than before, that has been the key to my good level of tennis lately. When I am calm I can find solutions,” he explained.
Alcaraz also told of his “surprise” when war broke out in the Middle East on Saturday, a week after winning the title in Doha.
Several ATP players and staff are stuck in Dubai, where another tournament ended on Saturday.
“Seeing players trapped worried me a little. I hope they can travel and come here soon. I remain focused on competing at my best level, although we are all worried about the situation,” said the world ranking leader.
Some players, including Russian Daniil Medvedev, winner in Dubai, were able to leave the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.
