LOS ANGELES.- The Seattle Seahawksbrand new champions of the American football league (NFL), confirmed this Wednesday the formal start of the franchise sale process.
The announcement came just 10 days after Seattle won the second NFL title in its history, with a resounding 29-13 victory in the superbowl before the New England Patriots.
The launch of the Seahawks was expected in the NFL, although in the run-up to the Super Bowl, its current owners had tried to stop these versions by ensuring that the sale was not imminent.
The Seahawks are part of a trust created by Paul Allenthe former owner and co-founder of Microsoft died of cancer in 2018.
In recent years his sister Jody has controlled the Seahawks, as well as the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBAunder the instruction left by Allen to eventually sell both teams and donate the proceeds to philanthropic purposes.
In their statement, the Seahawks indicated that the sale process will be led by the investment bank Allen & Company and the law firm Latham & Watkins.
“It is estimated that (the process) will continue until the 2026 offseason. Next, the NFL owners must ratify the definitive purchase agreement,” the club said.
According to American media, the Seahawks would have an estimated value of between 7,000 and 8,000 million dollars.
The most expensive sale so far in the NFL was that of the Washington Commanders for about $6 billion in 2023.
Last September, Allen’s heirs also reached a formal agreement to sell the Trail Blazers, in a transaction that was valued at around $4 billion.
