Barcelona asks for more “coherence” in refereeing in Spanish football

BARCELONA.- He FC Barcelona demanded more “coherence in disciplinary criteria” to avoid “contradictory” decisions by the Spanish referees, according to a statement published this Saturday by the Catalan club.

After losing 4-0 on Thursday in the first leg semi-final of the King’s Cup against him Atlético de MadridBarcelona wrote to the highest levels of arbitration and the Spanish federation to “denounce the lack of unification of arbitration criteria.”

Barça cries out against “the existence of disparate decisions in the face of actions of identical nature”, which “generates a feeling of double standards incompatible with the principles of equity, equality and legal certainty that should govern the competition.”

Barcelona especially criticizes the contradictory criteria of the referees “in the interpretation of hands in the area” and “the reiteration of flagrant referee errors throughout the season”, supposedly against the Barça club.

For all these reasons, the entity demands “more transparency (in the use) of the VAR” and questions “the lack of a clear and homogeneous criterion when sending referees to review plays on the monitor.”

In the match against Atlético de Madrid, Barcelona considers itself harmed by the annulment of a goal from Pau Cubarsi of course the Catalan defender was offside, which would have made it 4-1.

Complaints to the refereeing establishment are common in Spanish football and Barça’s main rival, the real Madriddenounces weekly through his television channel the alleged errors that harm white people.

All of this within the framework of the judicial investigation into the payment of some seven million euros (8.3 million dollars) by Barcelona to a former referee. José María Enriquez Negreirafor almost two decades.

The Catalan club has always denied that these payments were so that the judges benefited it.
