CARACAS.— The interim head of the Venezuelan regime, Delcy Rodríguez, appointed this Monday as Minister of Tourism Daniella Cabello, daughter of Chavismo’s number two, Diosdado Cabello, as part of the changes she is making in the cabinet after the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the United States, almost a month ago.
“I have decided to appoint the young Daniella Cabello as the new Minister of Popular Power for Tourism, who will now assume the responsibility of promoting the development and promotion of the National Tourism System,” Rodríguez said in a message published on his social networks.
Cabello, then president of the Export Promotion Agency and the Marca País institute, was sanctioned by the United States in November 2024 (a measure effective in 2026) on charges of undermining democratic processes in Venezuela.
His mother, Marleny Contreras, sanctioned in May 2018 by the Treasury Department for her links to corruption activities and who recently had her accounts and assets transferred to Switzerland, held this same position from April 7, 2015 to April 14, 2018.
The Chavista ruler, who assumed the leadership of the regime under the supervision of Donald Trump’s administration, thanked the until now minister, Cuban Leticia Gómez, “for her valuable work at the head of this important portfolio,” and added that Venezuela is “open to the world.”
Movement in the cabinet
Since she was sworn in as acting chief on January 5, Rodríguez has been announcing ministerial changes in Transportation, Communication, Environment, Health and in the Office of the Presidency, as well as military appointments.
Rodríguez reported on January 6, three days after Maduro’s capture, about the appointment of former president of the Central Bank Calixto Ortega as the new vice president of sectoral economics.
That same day he also dismissed Maduro’s head of Security, Major General Javier Marcano Tábata, and appointed in his place General Gustavo González López, as commander of the Presidential Honor Guard and head of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM).
Collaboration with the USA
Rodríguez was sworn in before the Chavista National Assembly (AN), irregularly elected on May 25, 2025, following an order from the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), after the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, during the US attacks on January 3.
Since then, the regime in charge has completely changed its “anti-imperialist” policy, hosting the CIA director, John Ratcliffe, in Caracas; agreeing to send millions of barrels of crude oil to the US for marketing and opening the oil industry to foreign investment with the push of the Republican administration.
In addition, Rodríguez has begun a process of releasing political prisoners—so far slowly—and has announced a General Amnesty Law and the closure of El Helicoide, headquarters of the political police, considered the largest torture center in Latin America.
“The current leadership is doing a very good job,” President Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One this Saturday.
