ROME.- The Italian island of Capri will prohibit access to groups of more than 40 people next summer to better manage the large flow of visitors arriving for one day, the Italian agency ANSA reported on Saturday.
In addition, guides accompanying groups of more than 20 people must use wireless headphones instead of speakers, in accordance with a new regulation approved by the city council.
Guides must also wear a discreet badge, and not an umbrella or other flashy or unaesthetic object so that their group can identify them.
Capri, located in the Bay of Naples, is known for its white houses, its coastline and its coves, as well as its luxury hotels.
The island has about 13,000 permanent residents, but in summer it attracts crowds of visitors, estimated to reach up to 50,000 a day.
The president of the professional association Ascom Confcommercio Capri, Lorenzo Coppola, welcomed “an essential tool to facilitate circulation”, a measure that follows the limitation of 25 people per group imposed in Venice in 2024.
