The Colombia Foreign Minister Laura Sarabiaannounced with a public letter his resignation of the Government after the pulse liberated in recent days with the presidentGustavo Petro, on account of contracts for passport issuance.
Sarabia announced the renewal of the contract with the company Thomas Greg & Sons to extend the agreement for passports almost one more year, but the Chancellor was publicly unauthorized by Presidencywhich instead opted for the elaboration of documents through Portugal.
“In recent days decisions that I do not share and that, due to personal coherence and institutional respect, I cannot accompany,” said the minister, in a public letter in which she has avoided expressly referring to the aforementioned controversy. “It is not about minor differences or who is right. It is a course that, with all the affection and respect that I have, it is no longer possible for me to execute,” he added
In this regard, he announced that he renounces after a “deep reflection” and with the “tranquility” of having done everything possible for the good of the country. Petro wanted an “successful” mandate ending and promised that he will always have in it “an interlocutor open to dialogue, to the respectful debate and the search for exits for the great challenges” of society.
Sarabia acknowledged that “the most important part” of his public life passed by Petro, along with the one he confesses that he has achieved “great victories” and has also crossed “difficult moments.” Both have “discussed with intensity and shared reflections with honesty”, in the words of the outgoing minister, grateful for the “historical opportunity” of being part of the Executive for just over five months.
Laura Sarabia took office at the end of January, replacing Luis Gilberto Murillo, who also had several fronts open with Petro, including her public discrepancies about the relationship with Venezuela.
