Chilean Justice rules out a complaint against Arturo Vidal for sexual assault

SANTIAGO.- Chilean justice on Friday ruled out a complaint against the footballer Arturo Vidal for a sexual assault that would have occurred last November in a nightclub in Santiago.

The accusation was promoted by the sister of the alleged victim, whose identity remains under reserve.

According to her relative, the woman was drugged on the night of November 4 during a celebration in which a dozen players from the popular Colo Colo soccer club participated, including Vidal.

However, six months after the alleged incident, the Prosecutor’s Office ruled out the complaint against the veteran star of the Chilean team, 37.

“It was possible to rebuild what happened during that day and, ultimately, there are no records that allow sustaining an imputation,” said prosecutor Felipe Cembrano in a video released to the press.

The Prosecutor’s Office maintains the investigation against other players whose names have not been revealed.

Vidal was the great signing of Chilean football last season.

After passing through great world football teams such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus or Flamengo, the ‘King’ returned to Colo Colo, the picture in which he debuted, after 17 years.

The fierce midfielder was a central part of the golden generation with which the Red conquered its only two titles: the Copa América in 2015 and the Bicentennial Cup in 2016.

His successful sports career, however, has been dotted with various scandals.

Inter starts alarms with Martínez

The Captain of Inter Milan, the Argentine Lautaro Martínez, suffered an elongation in the left thigh and his status will be evaluated day by day, his club announced on Friday, four days after the semifinals of the Champions League against Barcelona.

The Albiceleste world champion thus remains in serious doubt for the decisive match against the Catalans, after being changed to that physical problem in the rest of the first leg, which on Wednesday ended with 3-3 draw.

“Lautaro Martínez submitted this morning (Friday) to various clinical tests (…) It was found that the Argentine attacker suffers an elongation of the hamstrings of the left thigh,” said the ‘Nerazzurri’ in a statement.
